Troubleshooting
Common smart home issues and how to fix them.
Device Won't Connect
This is the most common issue. Try these steps:
- Check WiFi band — Most smart devices only work on 2.4GHz, not 5GHz. Check your router settings.
- Move closer to router — Pair the device near the router, then move it to its final position.
- Restart everything — Power cycle the device, your phone, and your router.
- Factory reset — Hold the device's reset button for 10+ seconds and try pairing again.
Device Goes Offline
- Check your WiFi is working (test with another device)
- Check the device has power
- Look for firmware updates in the device's app
- Consider a WiFi extender or mesh system if the device is far from your router
Automations Not Working
- Check all devices in the automation are online
- Verify the trigger conditions are correct (time, sensor state, etc.)
- Some automations require a hub to be powered on and connected
- Check for conflicting automations that might override each other
